Hello all, I drew a Henrys bison tag. it's the "hunters choice" first season. I will be doing this hunt with friends and family. I've been on the Henrys but killed my buck on opening day so I really didn't get to know the unit very well at all. I know this can be a tough hunt. Are the bison what I'm thinking and very nomadic? Could be just about anywhere in the unit? Or are there certain areas that you can consistently find them? I would imagine that such a big animal has to have water every day? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I too think you are the most gifted "tag snagger" I know of, but I'm happy for you. I know you will make the best of this opportunity. I only know of guys who have hunted Tatonka on that mountain, but I'd check some of the recent posts. I'm told the buff will scatter after the opening volleys and then the real hunt is on but I'm sure others will help you out.
Best of luck...oh wait...you already have that! :)

Congratulations on the tag. How many points did you have Brent?
I had 19 NR points and know that's not enough. Hopefully in a few more years.

Good for you, kill a big one. With point creep I just can't get ahead on hunts like this one and sheep. Guess I need to start tagging along with people who drew so one day I can say I went on a sheep, bison, Mtn goat hunt Etc. even if I was not the one pulling the trigger. Seems like Father Time will kick my but before I will draw. Wish you luck and keep us posted on your success.

I am still so jealous man! When my uncle had the tag we spent a lot of time on the mountain. What I have gathered since then is opening morning there will be 4-5 bulls killed just across north from the horn in the flat where slate creek runs down. Then across from Bull Mtn below Horseshoe ridge on the North end of the unit there will be a couple of good bulls killed that morning too. After that the from what I have watched the buffs are headed to Cave Flat, Trantula Mesa and Swap Mesa. Best way to find them there is to have someone post up on the east side and someone on Tarantula before they get to there since there is only a few ways to get into Cave. Then you just watch them and make a game plan from there. Horses are the way to go 100% if your hunting them on the Mesas and in Cave Flat. My uncle killed his down on Swap and came up through the bottom. Its a riot and you will have a lot of fun.

You have got some solid information here. The more spotters the better spread out to cover most of the areas mentioned. Spot them the night before the hunt and have your spotters relocate them. Hopefully no one has bumped them over night. With one shoulder mount I am guessing you are going for a full body mount on this bull. Good luck

Thank you all for the info. I have some great intel to work with and plenty of guys wanting to go. I don't care how many come, we can make a mm family reunion for all I care. It's going to be fun!

Full body would be awesome but I'm running out of room so this one might just be a euro mount.
