LAST EDITED ON Jun-03-17 AT 05:57PM (MST)[p]Hey everyone.... a buddy came to me and said let's go to Colorado and Lion hunt. I have gotten pretty good at nailing these Nebraska bobcats, calling them in and shot gunning them. A big cat I bet is another whole different story. I am going to start to research on big cat hunting. But any body wanna chip in with a quick comment on how they do it in Colorado. Calling them? Hunting over kill carcass piles? Dogs treeing them? Any other ways? What time of season? Etc.... I'll hit several sites on the webb and read and research alot. Thanks !!

Over dogs is the best way. It gives plenty of opportunity to ensure you take a mature cat. Way too often the cats you see that are killed by calling are sub adult dinks. Cougar management is a much more delicate thing than management of other animals like deer or elk. You want to make sure you are harvesting a mature tom or you're robbing a resource from future generations. Obviously like any other predator, cougars need to be managed, but if you're not doing your best to take the right animals from the population of any species, you probably shouldn't be hunting. Good Luck

By far the best way is with dogs. They kill some monsters up there with dogs. But when you have to pay $6000+ you'll want to try calling them in instead.
