It’s time for a real discussion

In whitetail deer I remember there was concern in some population in regards to the buck/doe ratio…basically once it dropped too low…yes the majority of does were bred…but a percentage were bred late or very late….like second or third rut…which led to fawns being born late the next year and...

Changing My Tune on Western Wyoming Mule Deer

Non resident tags in Region G have been less than 10% for some years….historical data posted by WY G&F note 5000+ residents and 400 non residents (less for 2023 with tag reduction).

Hunt Opportunity Giveaway - Southeast Idaho

I’m assuming it’s the outfitter pool of tags. Sounds like bear paw is now offering “DIY” hunts….

50 less NR tags in G

The writing has be on the wall for the past two decades. Up through 2003 there were 1600 NR tags for Region G. Fast forward to about 2017 there were multiple cuts which ultimately brought it down to 400 NR tags. Now it looks like 350 is proposed for fall 2023. Won’t be long until you will need...

    Selling “hunt consultation” packages?

Thanks. So “geographic location information”….clear as mud. Seems easy to work around.

    Selling “hunt consultation” packages?

So curious what is the current line in sand for what is permissible for an individual to sell hunting information packages in WY without being a registered/licensed guide/outfitter in the state? I know Founder has history with this topic but I lost track on the details on the law and any...

    Airline Travel/Hunting Trip

I’ve rental mid sized SUVs for two weeks plus for $450 to $650 in SLC, Boise, and Jackson hole over the past 10 years. Always try to use enterprise because their service is the best but sometime they are pricey and need to use a different company. Need to check rates at different times as they...

    Idaho Unit 48 Muledeer

It started going down hill ten to fifteen years ago and it really pains me to see how it continues to get even worse over the years. Some awesome mule deer country but the herd is sad and buck numbers and age pitiful.

    Airline Travel/Hunting Trip

See if a SUV rental would work. Usually much cheaper than a truck every time I’ve looked. That’s all I’ve used over the years and it’s been fine for me, plus I often sleep in the back with the rear seats down.

Archery elk hunting in 77 and 78

I’ve hunted deer and scouted in those general areas....I’ve seen some elk but numbers are very low...and I’ve never seen a mature bull...I would never bother to hunt archery or rifle elk based on what I’ve seen...there are better areas in the state for sure

80/20 split, for Nonres/res in every state

85/15 But of the 85%, split those into 75% of that allocation going to residents that reside in the counties where tags are good for, and 25% of that allocation going to residents that reside in other counties within the state... Trophy species with less than 1000 tags available statewide...

Will Nonresident deer tags sell out this year?

But NR deer and elk tags not suspended.

    90/10 not going away...

just going to throw out an opinion I know will ruffle some feathers...but for sheep, mtn goat, and moose, all tags in all western states should only be allocated to residents. Yes I’m a non resident that applies for these in some states, and this would screw me over. But I think it’s only fair...

    Deer moving from opener storms?

Of course not all the deer migrate early...otherwise harvest in those units would be very low and everyone would quit hunting there unless the season dates were adjusted by F&G. Plenty of deer are seen and many bucks are taken after October 10th.

    Deer moving from opener storms?

Anyone know if the F&G still radio collar and track deer? I know about ten years ago they did this, had does in unit 43 collared, tracked them high up in summer, then like clockwork they all migrated south into unit 44 before or during the first week of October.
