    Unit 40 Colorado

be sure to bring your gps with property lines. In CO private land does Not have to be posted for you to get busted. I would look for fields with does then stake out some bordering public and keep your fingers crossed that a buck crosses the line!

    Henry Mountains Management Buck Hunt

I've never been on the Henries, but have been on the Books a fair amount. I don't think the Books are known for wide bucks like they are for crab claws. I rarely see a wide buck over 26". If you'd be happy with a pretty 25" 4 point then do the Books, otherwise it sounds like the Henries is the...

    Colorado Advice

LAST EDITED ON Jan-20-17 AT 07:42PM (MST)[p]I wouldn't do a 2nd season hunt unless you had a lot of pre-season scouting in. Bucks are hard to find then. If you do go 2nd go high. 4th season is a pretty short season, but least amount of pressure and the Bucks are in the rut. The problem I see...

    Colorado Advice

A couple of Questions- How much time can you spend scouting preseason? How much time during hunting season? Do you want to see more deer or better quality? What size deer would you shoot?

    nonres wyoming elk

As a NR you will have No chance in 124. The past years there has not been a random tag, so only Max Point holders get a chance at the few Max Pref tags. Unit 100 has had at least 1 random tag for NR the past few years, so you are looking at a 0.2-0.5% chance at drawing. I wouldn't plan a hunt...

    Barnes TSX BT for Elk

LAST EDITED ON Jan-18-17 AT 09:40AM (MST)[p]I don't think I would ever recommend another bullet than a Barnes for Elk! They are the toughest bullets out there and perform well at all distances. They won't "explode" at close range like some other "long range" bullets do. Here are the only two...

    2015 SJ Archery Deer

It's a great deer regardless of the official. I have noticed velvet bucks shrink a bit from the green score to the dried out official. Can you post a kill picture for reference?

Unit 444 Colorado New Unit to Hunt

I have always had better luck earlier on the bowhunt. Opening day is late in CO compared to some other states. The dates you say are tough with the Bucks stripping velvet and they tend to disappear. Also when the muzzy season is on they are more jumpy. So I would say the first week is best...

    Tired of sliced hands/fingers...

Why would you cut the lungs/guts out? With elk I always do the gutless method (and just about all animals anymore), even if I can get a truck to it and just put the quarters straight in the bed. Saves you going in blind to unecessarily gut an animal and possible cut yourself...

    mule deer state option

What state are from? For mule deer I think of Nevada, Utah, Colorado. NV will take a couple points for good areas. Utah you can draw many decent General archery areas with 0 points, then hunt the extended if you don't tag out The archery season starts early there (Aug 15th last year) which...
