Plain lift, 33" mudders run at low pressure, lower transfer case gears, hard axles, 1.6 engine, lockers.
The best part of owning it was teaching my grandsons how to drive a stick.
Had both.
Sami with lockers and chains in the snow is great but the suspension just won't compare with SxS.
Got rid of the Sami after being beat to death on the rough stuff.
When I was a kid my dad's sheet metal shop was behind our house. Lightning struck the power transformer by the shop while he was using the spot welder. Sparks came from his elbows, knees, and the top of his head. It knocked him out for a while. He was sore for about a week.
6.5x284 handloads
Hornady 6.5 143 EXD-X
2735 FPS @ muzzle
185 yards, deer quartering away.
Entered and broke second to last rib and lodged in muscle of off shoulder.
Before weight 143 gr.........after weight 56 gr.
I liked the BC and accuracy of this load but was hoping it would hold together a...
I am not sure a 260 will chamber in a 243.
Could there have been a stray 260 on the ground, or maybe the factory stamped the head wrong?
I have shot a 243 in a 308.....accuracy is not great.
I currently use one in 6.5 x 284 specifically for deer.
( I prefer to have a different cartridge for each species to justify having so may guns).
It is not a custom gun but is a good value for its price range. Shoots sub 1/2 MOA with hand loads but does not do well with factory ammo. I had...
I have found a couple of weather balloons. One was still in pretty good shape and had a pouch inside that was to be used to mail the instrument part back.
Suspension..........
Used to use a built Suzuki Samurai. It was very capable but rode like a tank.
Wife's back is bad so I switched to a 2 seat RZR. No comparison in the ride.
Yes, had to add a heater, doors, etc, etc.
Most gun nuts wait years for the opportunity of correcting a fellow hunter's use of the words "caliber" and "cartridge".
Maybe he really was interested in "caliber".
My old 243 was the first gun for all my kids and grand kids.
It is also my "borrow" gun.
If someone needs to borrow a gun they are usually a newby and the last thing they need is recoil.
>Jeep, Winchester 30-30, red plaid
>blue jeans days.
OK........BUT the slippery slope begins..
Personally I want an early Bronco, a 30-40 Krag, SOLID red shirt...
OK with Levi's
>I wait until just after a
>snow storm and chains are
>required on 80. Dunno
>why, but I've never failed
>to find less than 4
>sets of truck chains on
>the highway.
I80 is a great source for truck chains!
Must be new drivers from Florida that put them on.
Distracted/impaired driving has many faces:
Alcohol
Marijuana
Prescription drugs
Cell Phone
Speed
Sightseeing
Age
Kids
Stupid
Etc.
People tend to climb their soapboxes and blame the one they don't do.
LAST EDITED ON Dec-15-18 AT 04:55PM (MST)[p]Hope something can be worked out. The immigration problem gets more real when it has a face you know.
I know that I did it "LEGAL"......
ie.
I was dumb lucky enough to be born here.
I am not much help on the AR platform question because not many, (none), of the people I know hunt anything but varmints with it.
If you are comfortable with a cartridge for elk it will be good for moose.
A wise man once told me secret to a happy marriage.
It goes something like this...
Once a day you look your wife in the eyes and with all the sincerity you can muster you repeat the following phrase....
"I worship the the ground you walk on and I want to give you money"
So far the results...
I am old enough to retire but haven't.
If I do retire my wife says that I will still have to leave the house every day and come back before dark....
I think it is a good plan.
I have had two, both in 6.5X284.
The one with the 24" barrel shot Nosler factory shells .5 MOA ( I sold it because I thought it had the 26" barrel when I bought it.)
The one with the 26" barrel shoots the Noslers at 2MOA, but with a little work with the hand loads it is now sub .5 MOA.
Amazing...
Cartridge and caliber are indeed different but to the non gun nut they are sometimes not differentiated.
The gun manufactures do not help matters.
If you are a hunter instead of a gun enthusiast and read manufactures literature instead of a dictionary it is easy to see why "technical" mistakes...
I have been involved in the Utah rifle deer hunt every year since 1960.
In my veeery unscientific observation the wounded animal ratio has not changed much in the last 58 years.
I think that if anything the percentage of wounded animals is less.
When I was young the deer hunt was a family affair...

I did one in 300WM and it shot 1 MOA.
Currently I have a 25-06 barrel that shoots as well.
I replaced the hinge pin with a Bellm 1X

I like having a rifle with a 28" barrel that is...
My take:
It hasn't "taken over", but is definitely a factor.
Solutions?
The only one I can thing of is eliminating scopes or setting a max of 4X or so.
Might eliminate range finders also.
Happy ending.
A long time ago in a land far far away when I was just a pup I dropped an odd shaped 3 point on the rifle hunt. By the time I got to where he fell he was gone. I tracked as well as I could and never found him.
Two weeks later and 3 miles to the East my buddy shot an odd 3 point...
