    Let's kill time

    Does nobody.......

I don't know if anyone is part of the I Hunt Colorado facebook group. Its usually a pretty good group, but that draw result posts have made it un-bearable and the complaints about not drawing. Ten minutes on the CPW website looking at draw odds could resolve 99% of the complaints. Its become...

    2017 Muzzleloader Buck

Thats his gross score. Net, he is 170 and change. The big deduction was his left front fork. The right side is huge, the left side is weak. Also his mass measurement on the G2 on the right is weak.....lots of mass but has a pretty skinny spot that you have to use for scoring.

    2017 Muzzleloader Buck

Yeah, I short-caped the deer by only an inch or two. We were in a rush, we knew where another big buck was at and were able to close the deal that evening on the other one. That original summer cape was awesome. I'm still kicking myself for being careless.

    2017 Muzzleloader Buck

I had posted the pictures of my 2017 buck in the Colorado forum, but figured I'd give a more in-depth story here. Any guesses on gross score? I didn't rough score him before taking him to the taxidermist, just wondering what you all think. He's kind of a unique buck to even guess on for the...

    Midday lull?

The sun is going to be moving across the sky throughout the day and the animals will get up and change positions to stay in the shade. Its usually not to far, maybe a different patch of trees nearby but I've seen them go to the other side of a canyon to stay in the shade.

    16 success rate for deer

Awhile back the Burro Mountains were closed for a couple of years to help out the deer herd and it seems as though it helped the population rebound. In a perfect world, I'd do the following- Break the state into quadrants- NW NE SE SW Within each quadrant, ONE unit is closed off to rifle...

In Season Archery License - Colorado

Nope. You can get it at any license dealer. I rushed after work to the nearest CPW office (1.5 hours away) to get a license since the season had started and they told me that they changed it so that any license vendor can issue them.

    Big Ram?

Its on the New Mexico Avid Hunters facebook page. Its a big wide ram. The hunter says 195. I didn't see it scoring 195, but it might be that because its so wide that is deceiving.

    Off Range Oryx July

Great advice. I'm sure he came on here to hear someone to tell him to go with his instincts. Us "nerds" provided advice that will help him avoid a whole lot of trouble.

    Off Range Oryx July

Be careful down south with the monsoon rains since it will be in July. The roads get really sticky when it dumps rain. There are lots of flood plains that you have to cross and can easily get stuck.

For those who have killed Oryx

In between #2 and #3 is perfect. A shot in #2 or #3 you will have a dead oryx as well. Aiming in between the two will give you some wiggle room in case it's a little high or little low.

For those who have killed Oryx

Its talked about over and over and gets old but its really about shot placement. If you look below, all the broadside shots, the oryx didn't run more than 50 yards. All the quartering shots, they ran much further. It didn't matter the caliber, an 8mm Rem Mag at the same distance as a .30-06 and...
