    El Dorado National Forrest

Any campground will do. Lots of places to camp there as well just on the National forest property. Go to ranger station there on ice house road to get a map of the forest Service roads. Pay attention to the fire restrictions if you're not in a developed campground though.

    CO muzzy deer load recommendation

Hey guys, Anyone care to throw out some load recommendations? I'm shooting a .50 cal CVA optima v1. For sure using BH209 with the BH breech plug. I've had previous success throwing 90 grains of BH 209 by volume, with a 295 gr PB, and CCI 209 magnum primer. I'm open to other suggestions that...

    CALI DRAWS !!!!!!

can u splain it to me..Geez

I think Cali draw system is ok other than I think they could allot a higher percentage to the random draw. Guys with less than max putting in for a max point unit should not be expecting a tag on choice 1. It's very easy to check the draw stats of previous years to see how many points are...

    Need advice on Northern Cali-deer

Put your kid in for x6b and each of you and your dad put in separately for Doyle. If your son draws you can help him hunt and learn the lay of the land for your hunt if u draw. Then he can go back with u and help u hunt or your dad.

    Need advice on Northern Cali-deer

Nitis it would be nice to have that data available. Colorado puts their stats out this way. The only thing that CA does is it shows the lowest point value awarded a tag so at least u can kind of plan on when u know u might draw a premium tag. But for those hunts that require max points u can not...

    Need advice on Northern Cali-deer

I wouldn't look at the number of max point apps for a specific draw to see what chance I have with a second choice. Look at the total apps that put a specific hunt as first choice. Then look at how many tags are handed out to someone as a second choice, not very many premium draw hunts make it...

    Need advice on Northern Cali-deer

Putting down devils garden and x5b as a second and third choice is will never happen. Those tags are long gone from the preference draw and random draw before second and third choice tags are handed out.

    Abolish the point system!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-13 AT 01:56AM (MST)[p]I saw that you posted this thread on another forum so I'll copy and paste my input here as well. Two years prior to the preference point system I drew X-12 two years in a row. One local in Bridgeport was not happy when I told him this. He had put in...

    Packable Rain Wear

You may wanna look into the Gamehide Hushhide rain pants. They're about $80 or so. Pretty quiet, durable, and pack into their own pocket. I will often just wear them over my baselayers if its not too cold and the brush is wet. For the money they are good.

    How Many RobinHoods???

got my third Robin Hood last night. It was bittersweet. first arrow was dead center in the X at 40 yards. Second arrow split the nock down the center and the bull dog collar split but kept the nock in place. never seen one with the nock still present. I'm over the fascination of Robin Hoods. It...

premium deer tag/ no refund? Really?

    >Why waste your money on Cal >when there are better states >that stick it to you? > If you're an NR to CA then I will agree with you. If you're a CA resident, like me, then I don't see it as a big deal since I'm gonna hunt here anyways.

premium deer tag/ no refund? Really?

do you really think CA is the only state who is sticking it to us? Nevada makes you buy a $142 hunting license if you want to earn a point. plus $10 app fee per species. Arizona makes you buy a nonrefundable license at $151 plus $7.50 bonus point just to buy points. Colorado charges $3 app...

If I could sell my max deer points I would. I'm tired of putting in for the cream of the crop premium hunts when I could draw a decent tag every 2-3 years in X-12. On the other hand I will never have max points again.

Random Drawing for Open Zone Deer Tag

Straight from the DFG: "This year DFG is conducting a Fund-raising Random Drawing for one Open Zone deer tag. How heavy is your tripod?

So I checked out the Sliks online and they are light but it looks like those advertised weights do not include the head. Plus they are rather spendy. I've also looked at the Vortex and it looks like a good value, but I prefer a pan and tilt head as opposed to a ball type head. Maybe I will...

    How heavy is your tripod?

anyone using a lightweight tripod that is stable enough for your spotter with some wind and tall enough that you can use it while sitting or kneeling? I've looked at some tripods and they all seem to be 3 lbs or more. There are lighter ones but they don't feel too sturdy.

    Good Headlamps

Maybe it's just me but I do not see any significant added benefit in buying an expensive headlamp over a semi-decent one. I have used a $20 Energizer brand LED head lamp that i bought at Home Depot for the last 5 years that has done the job just fine. Flashlights have come a long way in recent...

    Cameron Hanes??

In my opinion Cameron is an asset to bowhunting. It's easy to see why he has such a fan base. Some guys have called him a sellout, but I really don't see why. I remember one thread on here going viral and was shut down because of all the haters. To me he is still preaching the same message that...

    Rivers West Pants

Thanks Bogey, So what do you use for active hunting? I'm looking for quiet pants that can breathe, and won't soak me when walking through wet grass or brush. specifically for september archery. they don't have to be super water tight, i don't mind carrying some lightweight rain gear to throw...

    Rivers West Pants

last week at the ISE in Sacramento I was able to check out the Rivers West gear for the first time. At first glance I was impressed. It seems to be quiet, tough, and waterproof. But after reading some older online reviews it seems that a lot of people claim that you sweat like a pig in them...
