    San Juan abajo/Monticello area help

Your best option would be to find a good ATV trail and take your time going up it. The deer are there, you just need to be patient. Also will always see deer around the Causeway outside of Blanding on the South side of the unit.

Draw issues ( trouble pulling back)

This could have been resolved more easily if you weren't just beginning to shoot your bow for the year so close to the hunts getting ready to start. Any reason preventing you from shooting earlier in the year? Shoulders are not something to mess with. Shooting/practicing year round though...

    Now the wait begins

I set my bait out on Saturday as well. Headed down tomorrow morning to hunt. Hoping a Big Ole Boar finds it too.

    Would you shoot him?

Just because he lives within or close to town does not necessarily mean he is "Tame". I have been able to sneak close to many animals out in the wild just the same regardless of where they reside. He is still a wild animal just resides in a different environment. Stick an arrow in him and...

    San Juan archery deer

Wahoo!! Glad you finally drew the tag. You know the area well so finding a giant shouldn't be an issue if you are patient :) Grandpa missed a few giants last year around Woodenshoe and in 2015, after we had tagged out, Dad and I saw a few monsters around Poison Canyon. The area has been...

    195" 4x4

I am a true believer in how the animal makes you feel versus what it ends up scoring. Like others have said, score is just a number. The experience and memories will always outlast the score. Here is my 2015 SJ Archery Buck. He ended up scoring lower than expected but that doesn't matter, he...

    2015 SJ Archery Deer

2Muley, definitely the same gene pool. I get him officially scored on Friday. Rough scoring him I had him at 32 1/2 wide and 208. Excited to see what the official numbers come in at. The pictures do not do him justice.

    2015 SJ Archery Deer

Thanks Everyone for your comments and guesses. I am getting him officially scored this week and will post the results. The pictures do not do him justice. His Back forks are actually deeper than the pictures dictates. His main beams are completely symmetrical and super long (angle makes them...

    Big Bull Pics

Just got back form checking a few cams on the mountain. Any thoughts on scores? We saw the first bull yesterday and he has finished off awesome!! I have pics of this bull each of the past 4 years. This is his best year yet. This one has tons of character and mass! Thanks--

    2015 SJ Archery Deer

I want to thank Ray Bridge at Bridge Taxidermy in Price, Utah for helping me put an exclamation point on the end of an amazing journey. The finished product turned out way better than I anticipated. Any guesses on score and width? Thanks--

2015 Stud San Juan Archery Bull and Hunt Video

Stud Bull. Curious which part of the unit you spent most of your time on? Send me a PM. I had the Archery Deer tag last year and spend a ton of time on the unit each year.
  20. S

    How wide?

As to score and width: Width: 32"-34" wide with the cheater Score: 195-205 When he finishes out. Good Luck!
  21. S

    How wide?

I agree this is not a young deer. Look at the Humped up "Roman" nose. Lot's of good character and mass on this buck. He is going to be stud and worthy of any tag. Good luck hunting him. Hopefuly you can post some field photos of him after you lay the smack down.

Draw odds For Utah Are Out

They could have put in as a party hunt and if they were not the first to draw, then the # of tags would be less than the group applying so they would go back into the random pool with everyone else.

San Juan Abajo Mtns Oct 22-30

We hunt the unit every year for Archery. Great unit and you will see tons of deer. The weather will play a big factor on the rifle hunt. Shoot me a PM and I can give you a few areas to check out.

    Wasatch East general deer

There some good deer in the unit but also tons of private ground. Be sure to get maps and know which is public and which is private.

    Abajo Mtn SE

I have a buddy in Monticello. He says the rifle hunters had a party and blasted a bunch due to the weather not pushing them down low into the private grounds. He did say he has seen a few decent ones on the winter grounds but not what you would normally see had the bucks moved lower before the...

    JUDAS BUCK @ EXPO???

That AI buck looks very similar to my 2015 SJ Buck. I wonder if my buck came out of one of the AI Transplants?? They have the same look and identical kickers.

I s this the same buck

No worries Roadless. I think it is cool you have a pic from 2012 that could be the same buck. They are at least related and have the same genes. -Snky

That's a great buck Roadless. Definitely the same Gene Pool. Send me a PM of where you shot this one on the unit.
  38. S

    BIg Buck Down

I apologize. It is not the best picture. I was so excited I didn't think about positioning him and getting any good angle shots. His back tines are almost identical to the fronts and he carries the mass all the way to the tips. I couldn't even put my whole hand around the bases.
  39. S

    BIg Buck Down

Grizz- We you the camp behind the corrals or just West of them (turn left at the junction)? I have tones of greta pics of some dandy bears on Trail Camera. I think there are 5-6 different bears. We also saw a Brute just above the bathrooms on the Woodenshoe Canyon Trailhead.

    BIg Buck Down

Thanks Browningrage. The hunt was awesome. We were seeing deer every time we left camp. We can't wait to get both bucks back from the taxidermist and enjoy seeing them every day. I am waiting to have mine officially scored. I am guessing he will come in around 205-210. What are your...
