How was AZ unit 1 elk this year?

How was the Sept. rut hunt this year in AZ Unit 1? I ate my tag in Colorado this year. Very little bugling. Curious what others ran into in AZ. I'm heading to Unit 1 in early Nov. and hunting solo. Drew the late archery tag for elk. Some people have said it's a tough hunt, where others...

    Dish Network and Hunting/Fishing shows

Funny...I'm on Comcast and pay an extra $20 a month for the Outdoor channel. My wife just said we should check out the Dish Network, because it's cheaper and I can get my hunting channels. I wouldn't mind it for football, but I figured it wouldn't end up being cheaper once you factor in...

    GO-HUNT

I was a little annoyed Go Hunt didn't give me a notification of the renewal as well. I would have renewed, but that seemed sneaky and eroded my trust in them a little. They should have more faith in their product and value. "Auto renewal" put them in the category of magazine subscriptions...

    CA Blacktail

Great buck and tons of character! Especially for California. Well done. That should make a great Euro mount.

    Swarovski differences

Looks like you have good feedback. If you want more maybe call Outdoorsmans just to see what they say. I have the EL's and absolutely love them. I think it's hard to tell the quality in a store or similar environment, but once in the woods you'll have these "ah-ha" moments, where you can't...

    Kuiu Attack Pants?

I like the Attacks for November hunts or colder days on Oct. For Sept and warm days in Oct I find them a little too warm. In Sept, I like the Tiburon pants better. If it gets cold (i.e. first light), then I'll throw on Kuiu's lightweight zip off merino long underwear. (Great product by the...

    Bass Pro Buying Cabela's

Sad day. Cabelas might not have the best prices, but they usually provided great customer service, good knowledge base and a quality experience in stores or online. Love their credit card, such an easy way to earn free gear. There's a lot of history and memories from their catalogs and cover...

    Victory Arrows

I've shot VAP V1's the past 4 years and I've been very satisfied with them, but I do have some comments/considerations which you may find useful. As for the specific model you asked about, I'm not sure I believe the "low torque" marketing language used in the name. It might be marketing for...

    Fit of Kuiu pants

You're spending a lot on pants, which you plan to have for a long time. I would order your current size and one size up. This way you can try both on, you'll know what's best and return one. Little more expensive, but better than second guessing. They do run more narrow in the thighs, which...

    Bino Cases

FHF here for my Swaro ELs and love it. Also run their rangefinder case on the bino harness and GPS case on the waist belt of my pack.

    Lighted nocks

They're fun to play with and I like them. I prefer Lumenok over Nocturnal. The Lumenok lights up as soon as your string accelerates the arrow, so you see the full flight path of the arrow, which is nice because you learn a lot more. The Nocturnal turns on upon impact of the arrow hitting the...

    Most accurate fixed broadhead?

I use mechanicals mostly, but also hunt states where they are not allowed. I tried 5 brands of fixed and found Slick Tricks to be the most accurate in my setup. It was surprising how much of a difference there was from one head to the next. Worth trying a few, but can be cost prohibitive.

    grouse hunting with a bow

Judo heads are awesome for grouse. I've taken many grouse while elk hunting. It's a ton of fun and not a bad way to add a little protein to dinner. My tips...up in tree shots aren't worth the risk (pass though, miss, etc. especially if there's not much of a backdrop to stop an arrow). Also...

    Mini Blazers

Hypothetically it should do better, for the same reason narrow shaft arrows do slightly better in those conditions. Less surface area for the elements to come in contact and impact flight path. As for broadheads, maybe could use with a mechanicals, but I'm guessing you might need more surface...

    Rage Hypodermic for Elk?

Reminds me of when I played tennis....the damn racquet caused the bad shot! Rage will do fine if you do your part. The penetration debate is less a shortcoming of the broadhead and more a factor of the archers choices (equipment, arrow weight, speed, distance of shot and kinetic energy at...
