How was the Sept. rut hunt this year in AZ Unit 1? I ate my tag in Colorado this year. Very little bugling. Curious what others ran into in AZ.
I'm heading to Unit 1 in early Nov. and hunting solo. Drew the late archery tag for elk. Some people have said it's a tough hunt, where others said I should get into bulls if I find glassing points. It should be post rut, which will be challenging. Locating bulls will be key. Do you think it's worth hunting water or is there plenty of moisture this year? Any thoughts on hunting high vs on the rolling hills of the mesa? Are the burn areas from the Wallow fire in 2011 huntable for archery or grown up thick already?
