    8.5x42 swarovski EL binos

HI all, I have always wanted to purchase a pair of high end binoculars but could not stomach the price tag. I now have the opportunity to purchase a pair of two year old 8.5 x42 Swarovski EL's in excellent condition from a coworker for 1,500. Thats a savings between 1,100 - 1,400 depending...

I am leaving this evening, will hunt till Sunday. My buddy shot a 24 1/2 inch 3 point last wednesday, sorry no pics. I am the only one who brings a camera so if I am not there they dont take any pics. Drives me crazy. I will post pics if I get one.

X12 question and D6 buck pic

I drew X12 this year and its my first premium tag. I have only hunted D6 and D7 so I am pretty excited. My buddy and I have been looking at maps and talking to anyone with info trying to find a good spot to start scouting when we go in early August. I thought I would ask here to see if anyone...

    Big droptine buck

Thanks for the comments. The buck was not taken in Mariposa County, it was taken on public land in D-7. Rumor has it that the hunter thought it was a forky and since it was the 2nd to last weekend of the season decided to take it. I am not sure what that would do to me walking up on what I...

    Big droptine buck

I thought I would save these pics til it got slow around here. This buck was taken in a D zone by a local in my town this season. It was being stored in my wife's uncles locker. Luckily I got to see it before it went to the taxidermist. Dont have any field photos or measurements but a pretty...

Good boots for hiking / stalking

Thanks for the suggestions. I have looked at all three boots and right now am leaning toward the meindls, of course I have to get the wife to approve the extra 50.00 they cost above my budeget, better buy some flowers.

Good boots for hiking / stalking

I just returned a pair of Meindl Ibex boots because they leaked the first time I really put them to the test. I loved the boot and felt they were well made and durable just were not waterproof. So anyways I now have 200.00 to spend on another pair of boots. I have been looking on Cabelas...

    Big Cal buck

Thanks again. You never really hear about California as being a trophy state and I just figured that California didnt produce really big deer. It sounds like theres big bucks taken that you never see or hear about.

Congratulation on a great cali buck. I hunt D-6 and would love to see that buck during season.

    Big Cal buck

Thanks Sageadvice, you did help clear things up a bit. You are right that the record doesnt matter. I am just curious as to where this buck ranks with other california bucks. I dont know if there is an official state record book or not. I come up with three different organizations that...

    Big Cal buck

I am curious, is this buck considered a typical or non-typical? Do the three cheaters automatically make it a non-typical. I dont quite understand where the line is drawn between being typical and non-typical. Obviously I know a four point frame it typical but how many extra points before a...

    Big Cal buck

I am so excited, I have been trying to post these pics for a while but have not been able to get a hold of the hunter to ask permission. Finally talked to him and he gave the ok. This buck was shot in a general unit in 2007. I dont remember the exact score but the hunter told me it grossed...

I ended up bringing home ten, which was just the max amount my pack could handle.

    Fish (sheds) in a barrel

It could not have been any better in terms of numbers just in color. I checked out a new spot this monday and judging by the amount of horns I found I am definitely the first person ever to shed hunt there. Sometimes I would find four horns in the distance through my binoculars at the same time...

    This Weekend's Shed Pics

I never know to be jealous or not. On the one hand you find huge sheds but I think those rodents would drive me crazy. Maybe you should throw some tracking collars on the rats seems they find sheds better than dog or human. Anyhow awesome find and nice dog.

    1st day out in 08

Thanks for the responses. I guess I should count myself pretty lucky. This is public land that not to many people know about plus people around this area dont seem to care about sheds. I hope it stays that way. This wasnt even the spot I get excited about, I hope to hit the good area up...

    1st day out in 08

I went out today to try out my new spotting scope, I found a shed in the first minute looking through it. It was quite a hike to go up and get it and then I ended up shed hunting instead of using my new scope. I found 7 horns in about an hour but only one brown and it was a spike. The only...

    Combo trips- bonus Game?

During our back country bow hunt this year in the Ansel Adams wilderness we were able to arrow a few grouse. They sure taste good roasted on a camp fire, especially compared to MRE's.

    some california mule deer sheds

nice finds. I am glad to see you found a fresh brown, finally starting to drop. I will probably wait one more week before I hit my spot in D-6. My spot is so steep and nasty that you dont want to hike it more then once. So I always wait a little longer to ensure most bucks have dropped.

    shed dogs

Does training a dog to shed hunt ruin them as a bird dog, or can you do both? I have a year old lab that I have been training for bird hunting. I have used antlers for retrieving since she was a pup and she loves them, so it might not be to much work to get her to be a shed dog. I just want to...

    buck rubs, scrapes?

Yup your exactly right, except that it is not one of the biggest it is the biggest. Here is a pick of the mount from Cabelas in Reno. Here is a pic of the top three cal non typicals. I beleive they are from Modoc and Sisqyou (sp)

    buck rubs, scrapes?

Thanks again bucksnort. What you stated above regarding the park bucks breeding with the local deer is what I and others have observed. My father in-law used to work right next to my hunting spot and he would consistently see a few big bucks during the summer months just not many. Thanks again

    buck rubs, scrapes?

LAST EDITED ON Feb-24-08 AT 09:22AM (MST)[p]Thanks BuckSnort, I was hoping for a different answer. Oh well, now I know not to get to excited. I will just have to get back up there after the deer migrate back to the park to see if I can find any sign. Was I completely wrong about this? Are...

    buck rubs, scrapes?

    Tehachapi?

Thats a great buck thanks for sharing. If your were to of shot that buck in the Merced river canyon leading into Yosemite I would swear that I have the matching sheds to that buck. Hopefully if I get some time and I can figure it out I will post the picture of my buck from this year.
