Thanks for the kind words, guys. This was one of those hunts where everything worked out. Due to a job change, I didn't have any time to scout the area. I went out looking the morning before the hunt. Took the wrong road in the dark, drove into the wrong place (according to a friend's directions), and stumbled into lots of elk. This herd watered in a pond directly behind my wife and bedded in an area of deep sage. I found a much larger bull about 20 miles to the north (the right place), but I also ran into lots of other hunters and camps. I decided to hunt the low country where I found the elk and no other hunters. We sneaked into the area in the dark, and when the sun came up the elk were in the same spot as where I found them the previous morning. A couple of shots, and my wife's hunt was over. She'd waited 14 years for the tag, and was really happy with her bull. Not the biggest bull in the area, but when you're hunting with kids there's such a thing as "big enough". I'd say I'm a pretty lucky man to have a hunt like this in my memory book!
Best of luck to all in the 2008 draws!
