this is the load I will be shooting on my upcoming nm elk hunt. I think I will be just fine as they list 100 grains of pellets and 150 grians of pellets. my 130 will be right in the middle.

To muddy the water more, you should look at the Taylor index: http://www.loadammo.com/Topics/July02.htm

The 338's should come out better than 30 on that scale. Just wish someone had some actually experience of the platinums with elk. Hopefully you can post your experience. The made them to supposedly hold them together better than the regular aerotips.

I agree.

I shot them this weekend and they sure grouped well out of my Knight Disc. First two shots together then 1" out. We will see come Sept on a Pavhant bull (the wifes hunt).

pyrodex pellets 2 50 grains and 1 30 grain. with the .338 platniums out of my omega, 28" standard normal omega except with the limbsaver pad and the one piece talley scope mount, with a leupold VX-I shotgun/muzzleloader scope. man I love shooting this gun. sorry.

I just tried my first bunch (4) of platinums last nite. They appeared to shoot well in my 22" barreled ruger 7750. One serious complaint I have is the black plastic seal is very hard to get started in the barrel end. I have never had any problem with the 345 regulars with the green seal getting started. Anyone else notice how tight the 338s are? I am using 90 grains of Black Mag and getting good groups with my williams peep. This Ruger weighs in about 6 pounds and although I sacrifice velocity with the barrel length groups sabots and powerbelts very well.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-19-07 AT 04:07PM (MST)[p]Purchased the .338 last platnium last weekend and was extreamly pleased with them. I had grouping problems last year with the 295 powerbelts using 777. I switched to the .338 using pyrodex 100 gr. and put 3 damn near through the same hole at 50 yds. Going out this weekend and try some hotter loads at 100 yds.

Hunters, did anyone ever hear why Power Belt Bullet Company does not offer the platnium bullets in .54 caliber? Hopefully the company will offer this new 'somewhat harder' bullet in the larger calibers. I would certainly purchase them as I am drifting away from the regular Power Belts after reading the opinions of hunters on this hunting forum.
