I would like to keep my spending to no more than $400 for each item.So which scope,bonoculars,and spotting scope. Doug --any specials coming up or refurbs ????

No contest. You cannot beat the Nikon Monarchs for under $400. Doug has a smoking deal on the Vortex Sandpiper spotting scope at $199.99. It was rated very very good on one of the Birding reviews. Hope this helps.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-12-08 AT 02:54AM (MST)[p]In the $400 range;

Binos

Bushnell Elite E2
Pentax DCF SP demo from cameraland.

Both or these are closer to $500 but the extra $ is well worth it. Both are way better than anything in the $300-400 range.

Riflescope

Nikon Monarch-best bang for the buck. Another option is the Zeiss Conquest unless you need more than a 3x9 then it will be out of your price range. The conquest would be my #1 choice in a 3x9 for $400.

Spotter

Vortex offerings or Bushnell Elite offerings in 60mm or 70 mm.

cannon image stabilizers best for the money you can count the points on the animal 200 + yards away. great bonoculars
