6mm/.243 Action

I have a Remington 788 in .308. I really like the action but hate the short barrel and I'm not really a fan of the .308 in general (I have a 300 win mag for that). I want to put a new barrel on it, and I am torn between having a 7mm-08 or a .243/6mm made. My son already has 6mm so my question is; Is the action the same on the .243 and 6mm? Obviously for the sake of simplicity, the 6mm would make things a lot easier. Thanks in advance.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-10-10 AT 10:35PM (MST)[p]243 case is 2.045 long and a 6mm rem is 2.233 long. If you cant decide between 243 and 7-08.....go 260rem :)

Edit, I realized I did'nt awnser your question. You could do it but the bullets would have to be seated so deep it would'nt be worth it.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-11-10 AT 07:04PM (MST)[p]What are you going to use the rifle for? It would make a nice .22-250. mtmuley Nevermind, the 788 came in a large and small action I think.

If it's a .308, then it's the same
length action as a .243 ect...ect..

Good question, as to what you want to do
with it.

Leaving the boltface alone, you could go...
.22-250, .250 Savage (my choice), .243 win,
.260 Rem (another good choice), 7-08
(awsome choice), .358 Win...great choice,
but prolly not something your trying to do.

.243 Win is one of the best, most versetile
rounds to ever come down the pike.

Would be cool.
