What an amazing year chasing elk. We moved to Arizona in July of 2014 and I was pretty bummed about leaving my familiar Utah stomping grounds. I decided right off that I would be hunting Utah as a non resident this year and purchased an OTC any bull archery tag. I had no idea what I was doing here in AZ to apply for the seemingly endless elk/unit choices so I applied for all of the Muzzle loader hunts that I could. Low and behold I drew a late season 3B tag.
In late August I head north to Utah for my archery hunt. The elk were no where near as talkative this year compared to years past. On the third night after an amazing night of stalking in on a handful of elk my best friend and I walked in on this great bull and I was lucky enough to put one through the ten ring at 30 yards.
fast forward to late November. We spent Thanksgiving week in WI with my family. My AZ hunt started the Friday after Thanksgiving but we didn't fly back to AZ until the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I left for my hunt that Sunday, mid morning. I started hunting at about 1:30 in the afternoon and was extremely lucky to find this good bull just before dark. One shot from my T/C Bone collector and I was able to be back home by 11:00 that same night!
