My 16 year old daughters bighorn hunt was the most incredible hunting experience I have ever been part of. Once we found out draw results, this hunt became a huge part of our life. My son, Danny and I made a scouting trip in June and were able to see some rams. We practiced shooting all summer and the anticipation level was through the roof. My friend Jason and I arrived three days early with the plan of finding her a mature ram for opening morning. As soon as we arrived we were in sheep and it was very evident that the rut was in full swing. We were seeing a good number of sheep and had a good idea for opening morning. I picked Kayla and Danny up on Thursday night at the Buckhorn Cafe and after a green chile cheeseburger and those incredible fries it was off to T or C for a very restless night. We were in position at sunrise on Friday morning and as we had thought we were in rams. We went for a nice little hike to get above the sheep and Kayla in position for a shot. As I was getting her set up, Jason and Danny were scanning looking for a good ram. As soon as she was in position Jason turns to me and points about 170 yards below me and says "she needs to shot that ram"! The big ram was chasing a ewe and would not give her a broadside shot. Finally he did and I told Kayla to shoot him. This is where it got a little western on my part. After the shot the ram began to run and I got a little excited and told her very sternly to reload and find him again. She very sternly told me to calm down and stop talking. During all this the ram began to stumble and I could see blood coming out of his shoulder. A perfect shot, not a miss! I had her shoot one more time as I didn't want the pack out to be any further then it needed to be. She had a 168 inch desert bighorn on the ground! It was truly a bucket list moment for me as I was able to share such and incredible moment with my kids.
