Have any of you tried Blackhorn 209. Supposed to be pretty good stuff according to some of the reading. Here are a couple of links for some interesting reading.

I am planning to give it shot or two. If it is everything it claimed to be, it will reduce some of the limiting factors involved with muzzleloading. If anyone has tried this stuff, let us know what you think.

Couple of things to know:

Has to be fired from an inline and with a hot 209 primer.

certain breech plugs will not work reliably. For instance, I just bought a knight KRB and this gun will not fire the powder reliably. There are some good dicussions on modernmuzzleloading.com that tell with breech plugs work and which won't

seems to work well with tight fitting sabots and not so well with loose sabots. No one has really fired it with conicals.

other than that, it sounds like the best thing since slice bread.

I took some BH209 out the other day and was pleasently suprised.
I tried no swabbing between shots and went about 10 shots on the session with no swabbing and no big change in effort to seat bullets and no accuracy loss either. Speed was decent too..200 gr bullets, 120 gr. of powder, out of a 22 in barrel was getting me a litttle over 2000 fps. I'll have to shoot a lot more to see for sure, but so far I like it.

Please post specifics; such as what rifle, primer and bullet/sabot combination. Several rifles and several bullet loads do not do well so it is good to see which ones are working well. Some of the Knight rifles work with one specific breechplug and not with another slightly different one.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-27-08 AT 09:19AM (MST)[p]50 cal. 22 in. Knight Bighorn, standard convex breech plug, red FPJ, and W209 primers. As stated above, BH209 powder, 120 gr. by volume under 200gr. T/C Shockwaves with the blue sabots.

Next, I want to try my 50. Disc Elite but I'm waiting for a standard breech plug by mail...it's currently set-up with the domed plug.

MLKeith, Have you shot any yet?

Here is some info about breech plugs need for the Bh 209 powder .

It works great in my Encore and Omega , best powder i have ever used . Ordered 3 10 once containers@ 29.00 each and 20.00 hazmat fee and shipping . Would never pay that much if i did not love it . !!
