I had the roadless any weapon tag this year and my post is the one that Browning Rage referenced.
There was plenty of moisture in the roadless during the antler growth period. We did not notice the grass start to appear dry until the very end of August. If you hit a year of good rutting action, you will have the hunt of a lifetime out there. I had one good day of the rut total during my hunt(Wednesday prior to the opener), and I saw more bulls on that day than I did all the other days combined. I really enjoyed the back country experience that the roadless offers. With that being said, many people who wanted to go on the hunt with me, were unable to, simply due to their lack of transportation(horses). The bull I killed is by far the biggest one I saw, by about 30", and the 3rd biggest one I have even heard about being killed on the unit last year. Double C outfitters killed one on the opener that was a little bigger than mine, and there was one in the parking lot that was a brute! Other than that, I have talked to many tag holders that killed 280-310 6 points. I feel very fortunate to have harvested as big a bull as I did, and do not regret the choice of unit at all.
I drew the any weapon tag with 14 points as a resident.
