Book Cliffs Roadless access

I drew an archery elk tag this year in the roadless area, and would like some info on the different access trails. What I'm looking for is trail conditions, travel time to trailheads, steepness, etc. We are considering entering from either the north or south, so any info on any of the trails will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any info/opinion.

Hire Darrel Meacham in Green River. He will pack you in with his mules. He is one of the best Book Cliff hunters period! He personally killed a 380 bull with his bow in the BK roadless area a few years ago. Good Luck.

I have been in the Books (roadless) alomst every year for the last ten years. I can probably help you out on any specifics you may need. ARCHRYBLL took a nice bull last year with a bow, I am sure he can give you some pointers. PM me if you have any questions. We have taken some really nice bulls out of there in the last few years.

Thanks for the pointers. My dad and I hiked in from the top of Sego canyon this weekend, which was really helpful. We found some great canyons and trails, but we will probably check out as many other access points as possible throughout the summer, so any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Jun-03-09 AT 02:26PM (MST)[p]Darrell Meacham packed my dads bull out in 07' from the roadless. He's a great guy and knows his mules and the country. We came in from the south end and packed in about 12 miles. Seemed that the bigger bulls were about 13-14 miles in from the south end....Once you reach the parking lot at the top of sego you're about 4-4 1/2 hours in the saddle. We didn't ever try from the north side. We kIlled on day 4 right out of camp. You will have a blast! Lots of remote country, bears and elk! Good Luck!!!
