It was the rifle hunt and we arrived 3 days early. Shawn Labrum took us out scouting 2 days before the hunt and showed us some video of bucks he saw up high on the archery and muzzleloader hunts. It rained and snowed the three days before the hunt and the bucks were starting to rut. There were 24-26 inch bucks with the does, which we thought would be replaced by big bucks. I'll bet the end of the hunt was real good as another storm was moving in when we left after the 4th day of the season. The deer had moved down lower and there was plenty of them. We hunted in the McCook ridge area and the drainages falling off the ridge. There were so many fawns that it looks like it will only get better. The weather really helped us out as other guides, including shawn, said it was the eariest rut yet. Shawn also said it was the best year for horns he had seen.
