Are you from Iowa and want to bow hunt colorado for elk?
Do you want to shair expences?
I have access to 1000 acres of privet land
with about 200 of these acres in alafa (hay),
three good tanks, and adjoining public.
I intended to muzzy. hunt this but didn't get a lic.

so now I'm going to bow hunt it, (over the counter tag)
the area is south of steamboat,
Its not uncommon to see 50 to 100 elk each day.
and there are big bulls.
its tough ground,
its not a cake walk.
lets talk.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-02-05 AT 02:23PM (MST)[p]you kidding me.
there isn't any bow hunters,
out there that live in iowa who applied for gun lic. and did'nt get picked.

Maybe i am the only Iowan who didn't get a draw.
maybe what goes around comes around and i have stuck my foot in my mouth one to many times.
i will be heading out there sept. 8 and hunt the following week,
no problem, don't really care about the expences,
just thought it might make it easer to get the elk out.
but that what the make panyards for.
heck i'll probably shoot him in the alapha and be able to drive up to him.
or down in the blackest, deepest, steepest, canon and i have to take in the frying pan.

I'm not from Iowa, but East of Colorado Springs, love to hook up and perhapps, form a hunting party. I'm also going for an OTC tag. I planned on hunting GMU 861. Thoughts?

live not far from there. Happy to meet up if you are looking for someone to hunt with.

Boy did you guys go back in time.
This year I'm muzzy hunting northern colorado,
down by Yampa.
Have 1000 acres of privet ground that butts up to public.
Should be great hunting this year,
Last year I had a great kid and his father join me,
we bow hunted and had a supper time.
We will do it again and i would welcome them, but for them its and expence they must save for, so it can't happen yearly.
This year I have a co-worker joining me.
It will be his first at ELK, though he has hunted moose, deer.
and other small criters.
his wife may join us and do a little filming, but i think there is getting a little anxiety in her feeling on this.
We'll see, I assured her that i would set up a rest room/ changing tent for her.
Anyway the count down has begone,
some gear packed,
need to break out the gun and start shooting.
give the trailer and 4 wheeler a once over.
set up a mock camp, check supplies.
Wish i was pulling out horses instead of a 4 wheeler
so much better for getting around.
maybe next year.
Allways looking for a hunting partner, so keep it in mind.

Jim, Is this 1000 acres of land that you are hunting on, yours? If so I've got the horses so perhapps we could work out a deal?

Rchr,
No to your question on land ownership.
I juust have access to it,
which all came about a few years ago while talking to this rancher back up in the mts.
he said i should be hunting his property.
he was tired of loosing his alphalpa to the elk,
we talked for a good hour or so and he told me to come back and hunt his property,
so for the last 3 years i have.
the thing is there is all this public land there also that holds great oppertunities.
this year i'm going back into the public north west of his property.
never been into it but from what the dow showes on its maps it is a good birthing and summer grounds,
with lots of springs and tanks.
i would like to get back int west elk wilderness again also.
there is a couple nice herds in there.

Have you already done some scouting of that area? I'd really be intrested in knowing what you find.
Do you know how to ride horses? I've got 3 really good horses for the mountians; however, with that being said who ever rides there should really know how to control a horse in the event something goes wrong ie the horse gets spooked by a Lion, snake or something.
Perhaps, we can hook up for a hunt.

Jim

Rchr,
I've been hunting this ground for the last 4 years.
but like i mentioned never gone into this particular part that i'm looking at huntintg this fall.
I have owned my own horses, and have pulled out horses from Iowa for a number of years,
covered many a miles on horse back thru the wilderness areas of colorado, been up and down many a spot you'd think on a goat could go.
The horse will know of critteres long before your aware of them.
horses and not for the skidish, you take control,
How well do you horses except panyards?
have you ever hunted off them?
Do they except gun shooting next to them, of from atop the saddle?
what about seperating them, will they go quietly or will they talk to each other all day long?
well back to the scouting thing,
Might not get a chance to scout,it just depends on how things
go here. its a 14 hour drive for me one way.
if i do get a chance to run out there it will probably happen in the middle of August,
and it will be for just the weekend, like a saturday.
drive out friday, arrive there sat morning 5:00, scout out the area saturday, and sunday early morning,
then drive home.
the ground I'm hunting is up by steamboat.
a little south west of there.
where are you located?

is the offer still open? what about meeting up with a couple of kentucky boys? I am very much interested.

TOOTHOTKY,
This post originated last year.
at the time i was looking for a partner to hunt with.
This year i'm hunting with a friend of mine from the office.
Its taken me 3 years to get us into a muzzeloading season.
next year i plan to hunt first season rifle,
and hunting in the wilderness.
I have a spot i want to get back to, but its going to need the use of horses.
its not that its to far to walk, i just don't want my whole trip used in the walk in and the 6 trips to pack out.
