LAST EDITED ON Jun-15-15 AT 06:06PM (MST)[p]Like several others here, i like the system Cali has for it's draw and i like the way our current hunt zones are broken up. If a guy like Manny, has even 1 point less than absolute Max points, he needs to lower his sights on which zones he applies for if he wants to draw a tag! There are just too many guys with max points who also have patiently been standing in line waiting their turn.
Someone above recommended tweaking our current system to allow more opportunity to Random tags. I could go along with that suggestion, actually i think a very good one. Making the random draw anywhere from 20 to 40% of available tags for the units wouldn't bother most but would give those younger or with less than max points, a better chance to draw the tough to draw hunts.
I think much more important to us than any possible draw systems or changing there of, is the proposal consolidating units throughout the State, our Directors becoming even more pro-predator promoting the wolf and ignoring the cougar, and establishing more doe hunts in areas where the herds are already seriously depleted, doing so because there are few if any other cards in their hand that they can play.
IMO, all these current considerations by our Ca Dept of Wildlife are a much greater danger to our hunting heritage, our best hunts within the state, and another nail in the coffin along to way to someday having no Deer hunting at all allowed in this State.
The way we get our tags? it ain't broke and none are perfect...
