Clarification on deer combo vs. elk combo. vs elk/deer combo?

I've hunted Montana four of five times over the years "yes I'm a NR". I've always put in for the elk/deer combo. I last hunted in 2022 and got my point last year. My question is I got this point as an elk/deer combo. If I just wanted to put in for elk this year and mule deer a different year are all these points counted totally separately? Or did the elk/deer point I got last year actually count for elk or deer separately as well as for the elk/deer combo. For god sake I hope that made sense. Any clarification would be great.
