Was able to take this buck with my 2 younger boys right there with me.
After 2 days of hunting and not seeing much, we got up Sunday morning to head out. We waited in camp for shooting light and hopped in the ranger to start the last search before having to head home that afternoon. We got 50 yards outside of camp and turned up the rough road to head towards the area we had planned to hunt. We caught a glimpse of 2 big bucks standing 40 yards away on the other side. Hit the brakes, grabbed the bow, and put one right where it needed to go. It was still just dark enough that my boys were easily able to see the luminock on my arrow fly and make contact. I said "well, I guess we can turn around and go back to camp." We went back to enjoy some time around the morning campfire and watch the sun come up while we made sure to give the buck some time. After a half hour we headed over to where I shot him and quickly got on the trail. He had not even gone 100 yards into the trees and was probably dead before we even went back to camp. This was one of those hunts that we have all wished would happen to us just once. The size of this buck was definitely icing on the cake. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect ending to this hunt.
