It seems even some key Democrats felt that Obama was wrong in the way he handled the middle east engagements with our military taking a back seat to politics. I am surprised that Kerry would berate Obama and the way he handled Syria.

President Trump?s missile strikes on the Assad regime have re-opened the divide among former Obama administration officials over their much-critiqued Syria policy.

While some Barack Obama allies criticized Trump and defended the former administration's diplomatic approach, others could hardly contain their relief that the U.S. had taken military action in response to chemical weapons use.

?Donald Trump has done the right thing on Syria. Finally!! After years of useless handwringing in the face of hideous atrocities,? tweeted Anne-Marie Slaughter, a former policy planner in Obama?s State Department.

Slaughter lauded Trump for doing what some say Obama should have done years ago: punish Syrian President Bashar Assad for using chemical weapons on civilians.

Obama vowed in 2012 that such actions would cross a ?red line.? But he failed to enforce the promise a year later when hundreds of Syrians were killed by sarin gas and instead brokered a multi-nation deal in which Assad pledged to remove his chemical-weapons stockpile.

Kerry, however, was notably frustrated about such diplomatic efforts having no military backbone, even as he voiced public support for the deal and claimed -- erroneously, it turned out -- that it removed "100 percent of the chemical weapons."

?I think you're looking at three people, four people in the administration who have all argued for use of force, and I lost the argument,? Kerry told a group of Syrians last year at a United Nations meeting, according to an audiotape obtained by The New York Times.

In the wake of the Trump missile strikes, a source close to Kerry said he was ?absolutely supportive? of the decision and ?gratified to see that it happened quickly,? according to Politico.

Another former Obama official was quoted in the same article saying, "Our administration never would have gotten this done in 48 hours. ... It's a complete indictment of Obama."

Kerry has made no public statements since Navy warships on Thursday fired dozens of missiles into a Syrian airbase from which Assad apparently launched his chemical attack on civilians earlier in the week, killing 87.

Susan Rice, an Obama national security adviser, earlier this year lauded the administration?s efforts to get Assad to ?verifiably? surrender the stockpile without the threat of force -- telling NPR that the move was consistent with Obama?s desire ?not to intervene in the civil war.?

She also has not publicly commented on the missile strike.

However, Ben Rhodes, a former deputy national security adviser for Obama, has posted numerous tweets criticizing Trump, including one that suggested the president's motive was to ?generate ? positive? press.

He must have called Hillary for advice. didn't he do EXACTLY what she said she would do and he bashed her for it?

You gong gobblers take a FLIP FLOP and pretend it's the sign of a decisive leader.

Come to think of it didn't he bash Obama for wanting to bomb Syria? yeah, he did.

Stay Thirsty My Friends

No Dude, he did not call Hillary for advice. What he did was something Obama failed to do. He turned the military action over to his selected experts in the military allowing them to take the action they felt was needed to win the fight with ISIS.
Obama failed to do that and was not a good commander in chief because of it. Trump has proven to be better then Obama on this particular point of being a leader.

CRAP! Obama made Jimmy Carter look like a war hawk when compared to Obama's limp wrist way of doing things. Foreign leaders laughed at Obama and never took him serious after he blew the Red Line threat.

YES FINALLY TOG talking about something ne knows well !! Something he is a professional at !!!! TOG the gong gobbler !!!!! Thanks TOG I was wondering what you did for a job . Now I know !!! I bet you love your job don't you ?

If you have to engage in a war, this is the way to run that war. Something Obama failed to do by allowing politicians to make the rules of engagement that cost lives of our servicemen. Obama failed to learn from the lessons exposed during the Viet Nam war where politicians had the final say on rules of engagement. As Commander in Chief, Obama was very poor in performance.

The decision to drop the largest non-nuclear bomb ever used in combat was made by the top U.S. commander on the ground, officials told Fox News on Friday, after the so-called "mother of all bombs" was used to obliterate an ISIS target in Afghanistan.

Fox News is told that Gen. John Nicholson made the decision on his own. President Trump?s approval apparently was not needed.

Trump himself declined to say Thursday where the order came from, but stressed that he has given the military complete flexibility.

?We have given [the military] total authorization,? Trump told reporters. ?Frankly, that's why they've been so successful lately.?

What color is the sky in your world?

What part of no effect whatsoever aren't you getting? Assad has flipped Trump off and nothing has changed.

Why didn't you girls who are so weak in the knees at Trump's actions support Obama taking action on Assad when he went to congress in accord with the constitution?

that was back in the " America First " days wasn't it. back in the ancient past of 2 weeks ago.

Stay Thirsty My Friends

Sorry Dude, but I had to stop and laugh when you stated Obama took action on Assad. That was funny and the joke of the year.

RELH

I said no such thing you senile old meter reader.

I said Obama asked congress to support action against Assad and they said no. what did congress tell Trump? oh wait, he didn't ask.

Stay Thirsty My Friends

In other words Obama did not have the brass ones to take action and tried to pass the buck to Congress. Trump had a pair of brass ones and took action and even some Democrats from Obama's admin. stated he did the right thing and had wished Obama had done something.

IT WAS OBAMA THAT DREW THE RED LINE IN THE SAND AND NOT CONGRESS, AND IT WAS OBAMA THAT FAILED TO BACK UP HIS WORD WHEN ASSAD, AND MAYBE RUSSIA CALLED HIS BLUFF.

RELH

RELH our buddy TOG will never get it !!! His man love for Obama is so strong he will never be able to see the light.

So congressional approval for an elective act of war not involving the US is a bad thing? you slurpers are without shame. ever hear of the constitution?

As far as red lines go, Trump said he drew his where America's interests ended. such as the Syria conflict he said we must not get dragged into. until he flip flopped and took you gong gobblers on a 180 knocking you off your knees.

But it's all good now, if he flip flops back to America First you'll be tight there claiming that's what you want from your man.

What exactly did the airstrike accomplish against Assad? Why is gassing your own people terrible but dropping barrel bombs on children or blowing them up at collection points just fine?

We can all agree that Obama crapped backwards down his legs with the stupid, "Assad must go" and "redlines" that weren't really red lines. That still doesn't translate that Trump is the greatest CINC since FDR.

Nemont

TOG just because your idol Obama gave you a free phone and some other welfare doesn't make him a great leader. Get over HIM !!! He is gone thank god.

>If you think FDR was great
>that explains alot.

Let's see FDR led the country through nearly the end of WWII. Went from an ill trained, ill equipped military of about 100,000 to a total deployed force of 10 million. The country built 34,000,000 tonnes of merchant shipping, 102,000 tanks, 6,700 naval vessel including 124 carriers and escort carriers, 2,800,000 wheeled vehicles, 325,000 aircraft. Trained, equipped, shipped, supplied and sustained military forces throughout the European theater. Then did even better in the vast pacific ocean, that became an American lake.

FDR as CINC transformed the Country into a super power in the 20th Century. Highly doubtful any historian will say the same about Trump in the 21st.

Nemont

Nemont, I agree that FDR did a darn good job of building up our military during a crisis such as WW11. You would have pissed on FDR also if you had been alive then since FDR wanted to get involved in WW11 to help England prior to Pearl Harbor.
Unlike today, 90% of the people were behind FDR to go to war after Pearl Harbor. Makes it easy to transform a country into a super power when you have the voters behind you and not pecking at you for every decision.

Let's see: a well defined mission, a statement of what victory would look like, the civilian populations was told they had to sacrifice to support the troops, the enemy was clearly established and everyone had a relative or five serving, not just the volunteers.

I would support any president who led a war like that. Go look at Bush Sr and the first Gulf war for a reference.

Now explain the mission in Syria in clear cut terms, who exactly is the enemy in Syria, what does victory look like?

If Trump is the greatest CINC ever those should be easily understood by any American with any amount of sense.

Nemont

LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-17 AT 03:28PM (MST)[p]How you got me saying that Trump is the greatest CINC is false, I have never said he is the greatest. What I have said he is far better then what Obama ever was. Your reading comprehension still sucks.

RELH

My reading comprehension is fine

Have you ever read Clemenceau's essay, War is too important to leave up to the Generals? It is enlightening as to why civilian leaders should never trust the generals to make war. There are few wars that are ever ended by the generals, they are almost also ended with political solutions.

Nemont

All that is nothing but a different opinion by somebody who thinks his way is the right way.
The generals are our "experts" at conducting warfare. The politicians need to be kept out until someone is willing to negotiate for peace.
The politicians are important prior to starting a war and ending a war. If they fail in their negotiations, then the generals take over if the decision is made to go to war.
Since you are a ex-groundpounder, you should know better about how politicians screw the pooch if allowed to give "rules of engagement" during a conflict. That mistake killed a lot of American G.I.s from Korea to the conflict today in the middle East.

I know: you, DW and RELH want us to police the world without regard to actual facts. 15 years of war isn't enough for you all. You need millions dead instead of just hundreds of thousand. You get bent out of shape over a guy gassing children but killing them with tank, barrel bones and snipers is just fine with you.
