desired moose units?

just wondering what the desired moose units are?Also wondering what the most popular means of take is, rifle? Bow?

Check the draw stats online at DOW to see where all the applications are going each year among units. Same area of the website shows the breakout of rifle, muzzie versus bow tags alloted each year. In colo all moose tags are pooled and the preference selected by the guys who draw decides how manby of each type are given out.

The year I drew bull moose I was the ONLY bowhunter. Other years in the same unit up to 4 bowhunters have drawn. Just luck of the drawHands down rifle is the most common choice, partly because there are more rifle than bow hunters and partly becuase a lot of bow hunters chicken out with this once in a lifetime tag and want a rifle as backup to ensure they do not get skunked...or want to be in a stronger rut period.

In CO, there really aren't any undesirable units. Units that have just been created may very well have a lower population of moose, which would be a drawback. Mostly, anywhere moose roam in CO, there are some darn big bulls. Since moose have not historically inhabitated many areas in CO where there are now moose, the quality of the moose forage is very good, translating into "healthy" bulls. Add to this relatively mild winters (mostly), and a lack of natural predators and you have yourself great circumstances for growing big moose. The trouble is drawing the tag. A look at the CDOW moose stats will tell you where the biggest bulls come from. It will also tell you they're starting to come from most places where there are open moose seasons.
