Difference between tags?

What is the difference between the Regular Deer Tag and the White-tailed Deer Tag? I'll be hunting the Panhandle Units. Thanks

The whitetail tag has specific units and you can only hunt them.

General allows you to pursue mulies and whitetail with more options.

So why would anyone buy a White-tailed deer tag? What is the benefit? Thanks!!

You can harvest a mule deer or whitetail in some units with a general tag.Most general seasons close by Oct.31. That is when the whitetail tag is beneficial, most whitetail seasons run towards the end November.

The general deer tag typically has an oct 10-31 timeframe for any weapon season with the option to harvest a mule or whitetail deer. The whitetail only tag is as stated only for the taking of whitetails but allows one to hunt the rut in most units north of the salmon river. Since you said you'll be hunting the panhandle, if you only intend to hunt whitetails the whitetail only tag is the one for you, but if you want to take the slim chance you may see a muley up there for shorter seasons grab the general tag
