My dilemma is that I have been scouting an area for 3 months now and I have seen some elk, but they are in an area that would be very difficult to hunt with the amount of time that I have. So Friday I decided to hike an area that I have hunted deer in, but have never seen elk there before. Well wouldn't ya know, right as the sun comes up there are 3 good bulls in the basin. I watched them for 2 hours and the biggest 6x6 was a monster.
So my question is?Would you risk trying to hunt that basin and general area on opening weekend? Like I said, they are the first elk I have seen there?I have seen sign in the past but no elk. I saw the 3 bulls 1 week before the season opens, so should I take my chances and hope they are still in the area? Just wondering what you guys would do in a situation like this.
