Because then you are competing with all the knuckleheads that don't care enough to pay attention to when tags go on sale.Curious to hear the war stories this year. If there's that much demand, why not just throw them into the draw?
Im sure they would LOVE to throw them into the draw and make $10 application fees off each one. I hope they never do it just for that reason.Because then you are competing with all the knuckleheads that don't care enough to pay attention to when tags go on sale.
I much prefer this way.
I actually hadn't yet, but I waited in the que like everyone else and after an hour of waiting at 9:40am just picked up 4 tags for me my dad and two brothers.I figure you already got yours JakeH!!
Enjoy,
Robb
No you can buy tags for others at the vendor, just need there customers ID and date of birth. Same as doing it online.I got mine online this morning. Curious, about going to a vendor. Do all parties need to be present to buy them at a vendor? I asked the lady at Walmart yesterday if I could come buy them there, she was not sure about much of anything but said each person would need to be there to buy a tag.
NOON - 90 tags left.11:50 264 tags left.
They wanted to move to unlimited. The 17,500 was a compromise after the public told them no. They know how much demand there is, why is it a joke? What was the stupid point of increasing the number of licenses from 15,000 to 17,500? More money? I thought they wanted to see how much demand there was? Sold out in 4 hours. What a joke.
That is a great question. It would be nice to know.Just curious here, did anybody not get one that wanted one? Aside from someone that just forgot that it was today.
Because then you won't get a tag if people are flaky let him sit outCurious to hear the war stories this year. If there's that much demand, why not just throw them into the draw?
If they didn't get one they didn't want one very bad!!!. I logged in over four dozen times to keep a watch on tags left after we purchased all of our tags before 8:20am.Just curious here, did anybody not get one that wanted one? Aside from someone that just forgot that it was today.
I agree. I logged in at 7:55 am and was 9007th in line. After 1 hour and 19 mins waiting, I got one for me and my brother.Sometimes I wonder how many buy a tag now because of the pressure of not getting one or the gee wiz, I got a tag and then never use them. Probably a small pool, but still wonder.
Wish they would sell spike tags first that take several days and up to a week to sell out and then the any bull tags. I believe some buy any bull tags to have when they would be fine with a spike. But this way they have two chances of getting some kind of a tag - Like they say "a bird in the hand is better then one in the bush"
Only if it is a totally random draw.Anyone that made it a priority could get one today--you had 4 hours to make it happen. The question is what is the tipping point? What happens if you make it a priority, log on first thing in the morning or go stand in line at 8AM and then don't get one because the queue is too long or they sell out to quickly. Is that then the time to go to a draw?
This is an inevitability--just how many years til we get there? Maybe next year...

Curious to hear the war stories this year. If there's that much demand, why not just throw them into the draw?
As I recall, the rationale for making it unlimited was to measure the demand (how many people actually want the tag) without having to draw it. This ”compromise“ did absolutely nothing whatsoever to accomplish that goal. They can’t hold a thought for more than 20 seconds and they can’t stick to the 5-year elk management plan. So yeah, I think it is a joke that just happens to result in more money for UDWR and more overcrowding for hunters. Now they want to raise fees. They wanted to move to unlimited. I wasn't able to login until my lunch break at 12:30. Sounds like I missed it by about 20 minutes. I'm a new rifle hunter and I assumed that many tags would last longer than 4 hours. Let the depression sink in...Just curious here, did anybody not get one that wanted one? Aside from someone that just forgot that it was today.
I Forgot it was Today!
That is a great question. It would be nice to know.
Thanks elk but I didn’t forget nice try.But The Easiest Tag I've Ever Got!
I was at my technology committee meeting tonight at the DWR office and they said the problem is so many people log in on multiple computers and cell phones for one account but it counts everything for every log in.Curious to hear the war stories this year. If there's that much demand, why not just throw them into the draw?
This dude figured how to game the system. Probably didn't have any bonus points either.?Went to a vendor, in and out in 20 mins with 5 tags. Will never wait online again.
The first year the dwr capped the number of deer tags to be sold (early 90's) vendors still hand wrote them. The DWR called all the vendors and said okay stop selling. Yeah right?. People held back tags for their buddies and a lot of places didn't get/pay attention to the message to stop. Tags sold were a lot more than they were supposed to be. That was one of many DWR mistakes. They should of kept selling and for data reasons for the elk committee to see actually how many hunters we actually have
Thanks elk but I didn’t forget nice try.
The last thing we need is it going into a draw.
But if it goes to a draw. Then I vote you can only apply for one GS hunt.
I agree VanillaPutting an OTC hunt into a draw is the worst idea I’ve heard for Utah hunters since forever. If it goes to a draw it is no longer a general season OTC hunt and should just be part of the LE elk pool at that point, with waiting periods and all. Have fun with that, draw seekers!
Getting an any bull tag yesterday was simple. Anyone that wanted one could have got one. If you didn’t, it’s your fault, not the system’s.
What if you log on at 8AM, or go wait inline at the DWR office at that time and they sell out before you can get your tag? That's kind of like a draw right?--just dumb luck getting a tagI agree Vanilla
It would be the worst thing.
There is really no reason at all for it to ever get put in a draw.
HossReality is if you care, you get it done. It was the same(should be the same) for deer tags. Draws created their own problems.
General season should be over the counter. Take the "what the heck, I'll give it a try" guys out of the system.
I get it but there is no reason what so ever that GS any bull needs to go to a draw period. What if you log on at 8AM, or go wait inline at the DWR office at that time and they sell out before you can get your tag? That's kind of like a draw right?--just dumb luck getting a tag
I am fine sticking with OTC in so far as everyone who put in a little effort at 8AM got their tag--I'm worried that in the not so distant future those 8AM folks will not get a tag because they will sell out too quickly.
Last year they sold out in 6 hours, this year was 4 hours. The question is what year will they sell out in under an hour--it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to get a tag online and I logged in at 7:50AM.
Emperor Vanilla and I have went the rounds on this issue over the years, I can just see the future better than he can plus I'm funnier and better looking but that's beside the point
If it ever gets to that point, then yes it may have to get looked at. However, it is not close to that yet. 19 hunters in our hunting group all got their tags with no problems and very little to no waiting within the first 1 1/2 hours. After that a person could log in to web site or walk into a local store and get a tag in less then 5 minutes. What if you log on at 8AM, or go wait inline at the DWR office at that time and they sell out before you can get your tag?
