Posting up the rainfall totals from April 1- July 20, 2014.

Colored circles are 10 mile radius around each RAWS weather station. Towns are in italics, station names and rainfall totals in regular print.

Data was pulled from here: http://www.raws.dri.edu/wraws/nmF.html

With 10 days left in July, most areas are close to the long-term averages. Here's rainfall from nearby long term stations for April- July for the previous 50+ years:

If you want to compare to last year:

happy scouting!

Looks way ahead of last year. Curious what the Sac mountains look like.

I think we may be a little ahead of last year as well.

Paul,

I've been meaning to put together a map for the Sacramentos one of these days. Maybe I'll work on that this week sometime.

Till then, I pulled the numbers for area RAWS stations from Apr 1- July 20, 2014.

Smokey Bear....3.94 inches
Mescal.........3.92 inches
Mayhill........5.31 inches
Cosmic.........4.8 inches

Not sure how that compares to past years, but it seems pretty good to me.

*That sounds about right. thanks for the numbers.

There are a few areas that have not got much rain, but, there are some that are really nice right now. I am somewhere in the middle.

Beautiful time of year.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-22-14 AT 01:18PM (MST)[p]I'm down an inch from Quemado total,18mi away. It's greening up and there must be water holding nearby,as the elk haven't been here during the day at my place like they were couple weeks ago.
Fenceline rains for sure.
Places like the Hubble and the Malpais/Acoma have gotten hammered I hear.
Others hardly any yet.
I'm going to go looking around Reserve and Luna tomorrow myself.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-23-14 AT 07:13PM (MST)[p]Some heavy rain on way down to Reserve with lots of elk along the drive.
Light rain after lunch and a hike in to a spot I know to check on the springs, both flowing good after this drought. Cool. Elk and buck sign all around, no human prints.Better.
Very green on one side of road and dry on other, typical of this time of year. But rain so far looks good on the burn area and elsewhere.
Oh ,I only got butt end pics of the 2 BIG bulls I saw. One massive 5x5 ,secret spot, and a 6x6 in airport area......I just have a buck tag for there,so hopeful still.

Very green, wet and trails are bad I hear in wilderness. Some roads fine, some not so.
Elk are about and very healthy.

Rain heavy in places.

I was down scouting last weekend in 16A area. Not as wet as I was expecting, but very green!! Primary water holes had plenty of water, while most of the secondary ones were about dry. Roads were dry and easily drivable, and it only sprinkled a few minutes while we were there. There is still a few weeks until the hunts, and a lot can happen!!!

Most of the Gila and surrounding units have gotten some, but it's NM monsoon and fence line rains are the norm.
Rancher I know in 16E had to wait til this morn to get home, rained so hard yesterday.
I got .25" and down Hubble draw/Zuni Salt Lake it flooded.

Posting up the rainfall totals from April 1- August 17, 2014.

The Luna RAWS recorded 6.7 inches of rain in July alone!!

With almost two weeks left in August, most areas are near, or exceeding the long-term averages. The exceptions are the stations in 16b and 16c. Here's rainfall from nearby long term stations for April- August for the previous 50+ years:

Station........ apr- august Precip (in)
Beaverhead...... 7.28
Glenwood........ 6.59
Luna...... 8.07
Magdalena....... 7.21
Quemado... 5.79
