On Monday, 23 June 2014, 8:30 a.m., the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services will present its proposed rules on firearms an foster children to the Nevada Interim Legislative Commission for ratification.
As written, the proposed revisions in the new Section 101 will require firearms owners to effectively surrender their Second Amendment rights, including the right to self-defense, in order to be foster parents in the Silver State. The same rule change will allow police officers to carry firearms holstered on their persons when off-duty and in the presence of their foster children, thus creating a class of "super-citizens" for foster care purposes.
The NVFAC believes law-abiding citizens, and especially concealed handgun permit holders, should have the same rights that peace officers in their civilian capacity have; and that off-duty peace officers acting as foster parents should have no more rights than do law-abiding citizens.?? We urged the Division to include concealed handgun permit holders in that exemption. They declined to do so.
Please call, e-mail or write the members of the Interim Legislative Commission and politely voice your opposition to the rule changes. Ask the members to vote against the regulation changes in LCB No. R110-13.
