LAST EDITED ON Sep-20-07 AT 04:45PM (MST)[p]Jeezus folks. I still feel like dying!
Thanks for the congrats and fine words. My wife has read them all. I will still catch up on the emails, pm's, and other great bull posts soon. Especially you antlerrick, Moosie, and MortgageMan. Some killer bulls. Tell your wife, antlerrick, she is a trooper! I am happy for her!
Hey, ar or bt. You guys can post the other two photos I sent for me? I want people to see this great bull and how he is built!
The story of this hunt is one of work! Without the three horses Eddie, Joe, and Jerry, this would never have happened either!
Saturday was a day of seeing some bulls, but nothing worth while. We tried to get in on one bull, but he was nothing special.
Sunday was exciting! We had a very good bull withing 100 yards or so, but could not find him through the jungle on the side hill. We had him at around 500 yards but he walked away not giving us a shot. Then 500 yards again, but his cow took him away. It was awesome, but no deal!
Monday beat us up. No bulls, no bugles, nothing! Talk about a downer! We were all beat and mentally I think Monday just about did us in. I had another spot and from the looks of things, it was not pressured. We rode in and two bugles met us in the clearing up high. We tied up and looked over the ridge. We saw nothing but the bugles continued! When we bugled or cow called the bulls just walked away previously. I knew we had to try something so we cow called.
The bull stepped out in a clearing on the opposite ridge at 354 yards. My wife had a perfect tree branch to rest on. She felt she could make the shot but the bull was coming for the cow calls. He made his way to 304 yards and now had a sage clearing to cross. He was coming in all the way!
He reached the bottom of our ridge and now was getting too close in the burnt cedars. He finally turned broadside and presented a 125 yard shot. My wife shot and all I heard was a solid thud. The bull wobbled drunk and fell over dead. Damn we were relieved and excited when we walked up to the nontypical monster. He is really massive down low, great tines down low, then he goes crazy with extras and a double beam split at his right g4.
My wife, brother and myself are beat. We have never been so exhausted and mentally beat up.
Good luck WARBIRDUM and thanks SaddleSore. Your name is fitting right now. Go get it done WARBIRD. Hopefully there is one more left. I really think with some work you can find a good bull. You know I am there if needed and WHEN needed! Your glassing was a help and your company was appreciated!
