Well guys, in 29 days my Archery Cherry will be popped! I've been shooting a couple of times a week for the last month or 2, and am stepping it up to once/twice a day now. I'm planning 2-3 scouting trips starting this weekend and plan on getting some new gear.
I'm wordering if my hunting gear which I usually use on the General Oct. Rifle hunt will change? This will be my first year archery hunting, and I'm planning to be camping 4-5 miles from the truck, and hunting right out of camp. Any tips for a first time archery hunter? Any recommended reading? I'm getting PSYCHED for this hunt and can't wait to get out there and chase some bucks!
After reading the lightweight backpacking thread I've come up with a game plan for camp...
As the season nears I'll slowly bring in food/accessories and accessories and cache' them close to my intended camp.
My questions are as follows.
What do you recommend for a good sleeping arrangement? You've stated before something about the hammocks? Seems like a good idea for a september archery hunt at 4K feet?
Whats a good water purifyer? I'm gonna have to find a water source on one of my scouting trips...
As far as clothing, I'm thinking Under Armor Heat Gear for my upper, followed by a nice long sleeve QUIET camo (Suggestions???). I already have a nice water proof/windproof lightweight fleece jacket that will go on as the outside layer.
Any suggestions for a nice set of pants (again quiet and breathable).
I'm also looking to get a new set of Danner Pronghorns. These sound like a good idea? Not looking to spend a whole lot of money for the new gear, but I want a quality set of boots.
I know it's a long list, and not real organized, but any suggestions or tips would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
Michael
