hey guys, been trolling around here for a few years now and I thought I would post my first elk. I pulled a Wyoming general elk tag (non res) and did 11+ days of hard hunting. This was my first effort at ELk hunting.
First off I want to say I am humbled at this experience. The amount of effort put forth to scout and hunt these critters was way more than I though it would have been. I put in a lot of time shooting my bow and rifle... but shooting at paper targets or shooting a rifle from the bench is way different then shooting at a moving animal in the field.
I missed a cow at 50 yards with my bow. I guess you are not supposed to shoot at them when they are looking right at you. She jumped the string.
I took 3 shots at this little guy, 2 which were close to 100 yards and the 3rd at 165 yards. I finally put him down with the third. then he slid down the hill.
cutting up and packing out this guys interesting. He didn't look that big when I was shooting at him..walking up hill in the snow with 70 to 80 lbs on your back is tons of fun!!!
I could not have done it with out the help of my buddy John. He was a great mentor / hunting partner...
