LAST EDITED ON Oct-24-18 AT 09:28PM (MST)[p]I finally did the finishing touches to my muzzleloader and I figured I would share. I have killed 2 mule deer bucks over the last 3 years with it was basically how it is now but with a radial brake. One at 250 yards which was a wide 2x2 Muley and this year I took a meat buck at 280 yards.
Savage small shank short action
28? Brux .458 barrel tipped with a new LR Customs brake.
XLR element chassis (I share between two actions)
Topped with a Nightforce SHV 4-14
Load is 95gr by weight if BH209
.452 344 grain Bombs (kenitic preformance runs a few 344 for me and a few others)
Mag CCI 209
The gun is smokeless capable but I use bh209 for legal hunting. 95 gr is a pretty light load for it but produces the perfect amount of residue in the barrel to get consistence groups shooting sabotless. Based off my kestrel ballistics calculator, the bullets going 2250 FPS and has a BC of .380.
I know some will say it is poor taste for a ?primitive? weapon but I enjoy building rifles and shooting long range. I figure I would share it. Just put the new brake on that really makes the gun enjoyable to shoot and there is nothing else I will do to it.
