Thank you for viewing my post and watching the hunt. I see there are a couple of folks that are passionately upset (not on this forum) with the fact that I lost the meat. Loosing that precious commodity was horrible for me too, more so than for anyone who posted on this thread. I had to experience it. It was a first for me, and a first time in griz country.
There are two things that I wish we would have done differently. 1) boned the meat out to make the bags smaller so we could have gotten the meat higher in those tight limbed trees, and 2) Wear a pack that is able to put a quarter on it so at least some of the meat did not have to spend the night away from the meat pole in camp. The meat was moved a couple hundred yards from the kill site and in position with prevailing winds in a way that predators would be far more likely to find the gut pile than the quarters. It was in trees, but not high enough. In research for hunting in griz country I was advised over and over to pack meat and wear bloody clothes in the dark. As it is plain in the video, it was not until last light that we were able to make the miles back to camp.
Hunting videos are fun, and I thought mine should be kept ?real? by showing how it truly played out. Maybe we could have shown what we did do properly and express what we learned about how would could do things differently for the future?
I'd like your feedback. Should we have spent time with the video demonstrating what we did correctly and expressing what we learned and how we could do even better next time? Did it seem awkward or wrong that I was still cheerful just a few hours after loosing the meat?
My goal is NOT to be a professional video maker, but I do want to tell a good and accurate story when I can. Any friendly advice is appreciated.
