Me and my brother were lucky enough to draw a mule deer tag in area 6 this year for Nevada, I have been looking at a couple different places but 062 is the one that sticks out to me. We want to be able to get away from everyone and hike in, not looking for anyone?s honey holes but just some good info, if anyone is willing to help out I would appreciate it!

My family has hunted out of Midas since the sixties. I've only been there 3 times because you have to draw now. We have taken some nice bucks and you can definately get away from the crowds. Lots of sheep to look at as well. My dad and I actually put a husband and wife on the sheep that they killed. Husbuand first, and 10 years later the wife. Pretty cool.

LAST EDITED ON May-29-18 AT 07:14PM (MST)[p]I would take any hunt in Nevada with a low point goal. With that being said I didn't have unit 6 in my 5 unit choices., I'm sure you can have a quality hunt and with any luck, turn up a 160+ type buck. Look for roadless areas to up the quality of the hunt.

I've hunted 6 twice but never with a rifle. I'd focus on the area north of Jack Creek. The country to the west seemed like the fires and cheatgrass had really hurt the habitat. I saw lots more deer in the mountains than I did anywhere that fires had burned.

It's good country and I saw one great buck and a couple more that were close to 180. But hard to get them with a bow.

Best of luck on your adventure.

I know that area six country well. Congrats on a good tag (I assume you have the early rifle tag?). By the sound of what you're looking for, look at the area around Lone Mountain, 35 miles north of Elko. There are ways to access the mtn itself that are 100% BLM public land, coming in from the northwest near Maggie Creek. I've heard the adjacent landowners to the east will try to run people out of there, but as long as you know where you are with a good gps with landownership maps (or paper BLM maps), you'll be good. I've been up there dozens of times and never had any trouble. I've also seen some damn fine bucks in that country, high up where it's mostly aspen and pine trees.
