My grandfather and i were fortunate enough to draw deer tags this year in units 71-79 &91. Along with deer tags, we both purchased the depredation cow elk tags as well. Never hunted this part of nevada as we have been huntig california, idaho, and colorado while waiting to try and draw a non resident nevada tag. Driving through jackpot headed to idaho every year i see lots of deer migrating out of this area . Can anybody give me some info on resident deer in this area or are these units really dependant on weather and migration to get the big bucks moving into the units west of Jackpot. I am thinking of scouting in late August and pulling my travel trailer to jackpot as a home base. We have aj jeep, rhino, and quads to drive dirt roads. Any info on road conditions and what zone maybe better to focus on would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking the deer may be easier to find than the cow elk. I am 30% disabled from a work accident and have had two back surgeries so any extremely steep terrain back country pack out locations are probably out. My grandfather is in his mid 70?s so we are going to have help from family members packing anything we may harvest. Really steep mountain country will probably be out but we are not afraid to hike 7-10 miles a day to get off the roads and away from hunting pressure. Thanks in anvance fir any help.
