Anyone have any experience with this camera. I was thinking for kill photos and maybe some live also. Is it a step up from the compacts? It only weighs 1lb. and has 36X optical zoom.

I bought both the Nikon P500 and S8100 in the past year and love them. Have used them extensively as outdoor camera's and will be taking them on a hike to Notch Lake in the Uintas this Wed.
Go to "dpreview.com" and click on Forums and go down to "Nikon Talk". There is a lot of discussion about the P500 (good and bad) along with numerous photo examples. Many from birding safari's in Central America, Africa, England and the good old U.S.
Also, "photographyblog.com" did an extensive review giving the P500 great marks...do a P500 Review search and it will come up.
