NM Desert Sheep

Hey guys,

I got lucky and pulled the White Sands desert sheep tag. Question, has anybody ever seen rams on this unit? I know access is restricted so I'm guessing there's not a lot of info. I hunted oryx there a couple years ago but didn't see any sheep in the area we were hunting. Figured my best bet would be talking to the biologist in the area but was curious if you all knew anything. I'm still in disbelief I drew this tag!

Don't know anything about the sheep in your unit but just wanted to say congratulations!

I think the game and fish have been doing extensive studies on all the NM desert sheep so the biologists will know where the sheep are. I would google research posted on the web, or even check with the U of NM. My son almost took a job studying them down there a few years back.
Congratulations!

Most of the sheep in that area live on the refuge, you are going to need the sheep to cross the valley. There are a number of big rams you will just need to get lucky and get them on the right side of the valley to shoot them. Access for scouting will be limited before the hunt, and your hunt can also be limited to ONLY WHEN there are NO military actions on the base. Its been a closed area for years but rumor is there are 5 or more sheep in the class 5 group or full curl? This hunt is likely to be escorted by military or base security or possibly on your own or with a guide. I have not seen written in stone the 100% plan for this hunt yet!
Killer tag man! Let me know if I can be of any other help!

Yea did not mean to post that, class 5 is the classification that the wildlife biologists on the base use for a mature ram or full curl. I have talked with them about the sheep on this hunt it got stuck in my head?K. Just think of a class 5 ram as a big ass ram ??

You scored big time! They timed the hunt so it is unlikely that there will be any worry about military operations getting in the way. Are you a resident or nonresident?

Wow, well done Mr TheSaint!

I can't help on hunt details but I will be a cheerleader. HAVE A SUPER HUNT NO MATTER THE OUTCOME! Congratulations!

Sheep are my favorite animals and desert rams are my favorite sub-species.

Good luck on a big ram.
