All of the above comments are correct. I've hunted unit 34 for 8 years now, and have been scouting and visiting the area all of my life. Don't expect to see Mexico sized desert mule deer - you'll be doing extremely good to even see something over 24". The main reason I keep going back is because my family has a cabin up there, and my grandfather and great-grandfather used to hunt up there, so the area holds some sentimental value for me.
However, there are some private ranches in the Mayhill area that have access to some good country. If you don't mind my asking, what ranch are you hunting on?
One thing to be careful about is the new regulations. If you are hunting on private land only, you can get a private land tag without going through the draw. However, with that tag, you can only hunt on private land. A lot of the private ranches only have a small amount of private land, but have access to land-locked portions of public land. Under the new regs, you cannot hunt that public land... In order to be able to hunt on the public land, you will have to draw a tag. I don't mean to denigrate the landowner, but it is something you should keep in mind.
