Looking for a little info about possible 2015 deer tag for Southern Idaho. I live in Northern Utah and am considering hunting Southern Idaho or Western Wyoming for muleys, but Wyoming dates are dang near identical to our 2015 general bull hunt.

My question is can I expect to draw something for Southern Idaho with rifle, probably general not controlled, what is land access like for those units and what type of deer can I expect to see?

Not looking for honey-holes or special info, if I draw I will spent time scouting, but looking for a little info to point me in a direction or a unit to look at.

Thanks for any info.

Be sure and check for USFS closures before you even apply, much less go.
I got screwed this past fall on an ID Elk trip in the Sawtooth. They had shut down a huge part of the unit to ANY entry. The only access I could find was camping in designated campsites only and 3 days maximum stay.

So there is no need to apply for a general tag, just buy over the counter once they are available?

I think you are referring to the Unit 39 bull hunt. A portion of that hunt is in the southern part of the Sawtooth Wilderness. The closures were from the fires/flooding.

Correct. Put in for the long shot trophy units, but plan to hunt OTC. There are lots of units where you can have a deer, elk, bear and wolf tag in your pocket at the same time. All OTC.

NR's in Idaho can use their deer or elk tag on a mountain lion, bear or a wolf.

I haven't hunted Utah, but I have a pretty good feeling it will be a lot easier to get away from the crowds anywhere in Idaho versus the Wasatch/Uinta/Cache.

Actually unit 48' for the same reasons; fire, floods, landslides, global warming, middle east turmoil, etc...

Just got an E-mail reply from the USFS that the closures and limited camp stays, restrictions are still in effect, and no promise of rescinding. I wont be going to Idaho this year.

Update!! Some areas (the one I like) have been expanded to 16day
camping limits. Looks like I may be going.
