Hello All!!
We got Oak Tree Bull (JP my son...named him) on Oct.13th. We scouted for bulls all over the unit hoping to find a shooter. It was not working out for us so I made some phone calls(THANKS DONK) and we loaded up camp and move 3 hrs away. We scouted the day before our hunt and found lots of sign.
The hunt begins and we are up in the dark and ready to go. Me, JP, and my brother(Dave) head out working a ridge for about 2 miles. It started to get rough and steep so JP and Dave started to head back to the canyon where we parked. I continued about another mile and started to drop into the canyon.
It all happened pretty fast. I spooked out the cows first then the bull was in hot pursuit. The bull was running to the bottom of the canyon so I took off to a more visible spot. Cow called to him and stopped him in his tracks. He stopped right behind a oak tree. When I put him in the scope I found a spot and smoked him. Stopped him with a bugle and started to reload
(that was interesting considering I was shaking pretty good.)
Went looking for him and found 40 yards double lunged.
I made my way back to the guys and had them pick me up (gotta love radios). Showed my son the camera with the bull and he was siked!! He just kept saying who got this bull!! Everyone just looked at me and I told them BULL DOWN!! Spirits were lifted!!!
We went to camp and loaded up the packs and started for the pack out!! This was my sons first big bull....definately not the last!!!!
Not much of a story line but it is the truth. I want to thank my wife and daughter for putting up with the hunting obsession me and my son have!! Thank you JP for the pride you give me!! Thank you Dave, Walt, Jerome, Dino for the support and strong backs!!
