This is Stephanie, Rik's wife - Thank you for all of the kind words of encouragement and the warm welcome!
re: GW4BOW's post:
>What peaked your interest to pursue hunting?
i hunted deer with my dad when I was a teenager but wasn't serious then. In the past few years I started spending more time going fishing & bird hunting with Rik. I went along deer hunting last year and realized that I had caught the bug- I wanted to be hunting myself but didn't feel confident yet with a rifle and scope. We spent a lot of time this summer and fall on the range, which really helped my confidence. Also, Rik made sure that I got a rifle that fit me well and good boots and gear.
> Are you know more hard-core than your husband now. Or is it balanced with mutual interest.
I am definitely not as hard core as my husband, but I'll be honest getting a good buck for my first one really enforced my
desire to continue hunting.
>This year I am focusing on my wife getting into bowhunting
with me and she is getting excited about getting a bow and begin target shooting and then accompany me into the hills for her first hunt. I have several spots with two treestands so I
thought it would be fun to involve her with my passion for hunting too.
I think that's a great idea!
>Can you shed some light on your introduction to getting more
>involved with hunting. Was it coaxed by your husband or what sparked your interest?
I hope i covered that okay above- honestly, I can't pin down what exactly started it...I have had a great time going along fishing and hunting - and of course it's always more fun when you can do it yourself. Rik never pushed me but always encouraged me, which I think is the most important part.
>My wife is grew up with father hunting but has been a city girl since. With my last four years devoted to bowhunting deer and elk she seems to be willing to give it a try.
Good for her - I really enjoyed it and found it relaxing. If only we could live like that every day!
>Any suggestions or comments?
I think again the most important part is that you want her to try it and are being supportive. I never would have started if Rik hadn't been there to help me out, picking out a gun, etc.
>Again congratulations. Sounds like your both going to have many stories to tell over the years.
=)
Thank you, you and everyone have been really nice. I hope that I have been of some help; let me know if I can answer any other questions.
I'm thrilled with my hunt this year and can't wait for next year!
