regardless of money, is there a big difference between a 45 and the different makers IE: Ruger? Glock? Smith and Wesson? Taurus?

I am a 1911 fan for 45s unless there is just one brand you really want. With 1911 variants there are so many aftermarket parts and accessories you can build to taste and make a very accurate pistol. Buy one already tricked out or just start with like a Springfield basic package. There are a lot of really good ones on the market.

When it comes to the 1911's out there, there is a big differrence between the brands. this is one area where you get what you pay for. several of the off brands do not fully heat treat the slide and frame, instead they only spot heat treat the stress points like the military did when the 1911 was a issued firearm. I would stay with Kimber, Springfield, Colt, S&W, H&K, if you want a top quality 1911.
