I need a bino and a range finder for mule deer hunting. I have $1,000 to play with. Lets hear what you fellers would do in this situation.

Doug treated me really well on a Leica LRF1200 about 3 years ago. Until then I had used a Bushnell Compact800. Huge difference in reliability and clarity. Way happy with the Leica.

Doug will stear you properly in the bino are too. But his screaming deal on the Vortex Stokes DLS 10x42 come immediately to mind.

Good luck and Have tons of fun shopping for optics. Be careful though, it can turn into a disease.

I see a lot of hunters are using 10X binos. That seems to be the favorite magnification. Is there any real world advantage to going 50mm as opposed to the 42mm?

Light gathering capabilities. I have a friend who has the 10x50 SLC's and they are amazing!

Doug is a good guy and will steer you in the right direction.
