Not sure why someone would do this

Probably someone needing some horn to finish that antler chandelier, furniture, knife,coat hook stand, door/drawer pulls...antler art in general. If so, I certainly wouldn't want to mess with that stinkin head or that weird angle if trying to cut off at the base or through the skull.

I bet it was the DWR. Here in Utah if they find a mature animal dead they will often just cut the antlers off like that so no one can take them.

Its got a tag in its right ear

4-sure he has a tag in this right ear..
We were only with him about 10mins or so..
I'm just trying to remember if there were tags in both ..

Transplanted bull. I found a shead in Cali that was only 4" long with about 8" of mass with the main beam cut above 1st brow and the brow removed.
