Give more archery tags we have a way lower success rate?????2009 deer harvest results.

San Juan: archery-- 90.9% success
Any weapon-- 90% success
Muzzle-- 88.9% success

Paunsaugunt archery-- 83.9% success
Any weapon 81.7% success
muzzle-- 86.8% success

Book cliffs archery-- 92% success
any weapon 91.6% success
muzzle 86% success

Kind of shoots that argument right in the arse!!!

fillmore/oak creek
archery 37.5%
muzzy 72.7%
anyweapon 67.7%

vernon
archery 63.3%
muzzy 80%
anyweapon 87.9%

lasal/dt
archery 75%
muzzy 100%
anyweapon 100%

kinda helps that arguement!!!

not to mention 2.37 deer get an arrow stuck in them per deer tagged....

+1 huntinfanatic

Thought I'd throw a few elk stats in, just for arguments sakes!

San Juan
Arch: 54.5%
Any: 95.7/73.7%
Muzzy: 100%

Paunsaugunt
Arch: 12.5%
Any: 69.6%
Muzzy: 66.7%

Book Cliffs- Bitter/Little Creek
Arch: 50/50%
Any: 92.3/86.4%
Muzzy: 71.3/81.8%

I think the lower success rates will always ring true!

You can talk percent all you want. lets start lookin at the number of tags per weapon kill.

San Juan: archery-- 90.9% success, 11 tags, 10 deer harvested
Any weapon-- 90% success, 33 tags, 27 harvested
Muzzle-- 88.9% success, 9 tags, 8 harvested

Paunsaugunt archery-- 83.9% success, 32 tags, 27 harvested
Any weapon 81.7% success, 90 tags, 74 harvested
muzzle-- 86.8% success, 41 tags, 36 harvested

Book cliffs archery-- 92% success, 121 tags, 109 harvested
any weapon 91.6% success, 393 tags, 357 harvested
muzzle 86% success, 125 tags, 107 harvested

The percent kill for each weapon may be similar, but if you were to give out 90 tags for archery instead of 32. with that added pressure you success rate would drop dramatically. just look at the elk hunts, in the last 5 years tags have more that doubled and your harvest for archery on most units is at or below 50%.
