To clarify what MEEW stated, the RAC board referred the UBA proposals to the Wildlife Board, and then turned around recommended going with EVERYTHING the DWR proposed, which includes: pick a region for the first 18 days of archery, statewide spike hunt, management deer tags on the LE premium units.
I was disappointed by the turn out as well, if you subtracted the DWR/DNR employees, Wildlife Board members in attendance, and the RAC members it was a poor showing. UBA brought 10 people from up north to the meeting, sad to see how many apathetic hunters there are out there.
Only ONE archer stood up in favor of picking a region, every other archer (8-10) was in favor of keeping statewide. There were a few RIFLE hunters wanting to do away with statewide, I directly asked the SFW rep from the Dixie SFW Chapter why the RIFLE guys cared about statewide archery since it is been spun as an over-crowding issue. He finally admitted it is because RIFLE hunters from the south are frustrated that they can't draw a RIFLE tag while 'outsiders' can come and hunt 'their' mountain. This is the same guy who said we need to be united as hunters, WTF?
The RAC members were unwilling to address a single proposal made by the public, including a GREAT one made by the mobile impaired group asking for a few LE tags for permanently wheelchair hunters, their proposal got a round of applause from the audience and not even ONE comment from the RAC board.
If it is important to people they will show up, I did and I had to drive home in nasty conditions. I got home at 2:30 am, I would do it again. Stay home and do NOTHING and you get what you get.
